Shyok Winter Festival begins in Khaplu, Ghanche

The three-day Shyok Winter Festival in Khaplu Ghanche, Gilgit Baltistan began, 24News HD TV channel reported on Sunday.

According to the details, the opening ceremony was attended by the Canadian High Commissioner, ambassadors from different countries, climbers, sports lovers, and a big number of visitors from the United Kingdom (UK).

For the first time, the Shyok Winter Festival is being held in the Ghanche district in which climbers, sports teams, and singers from all around Gilgit-Baltistan are taking part. 

The channel report said the climbers participated in the rock climbing competition and scaled the peak in front of City Park Khaplu.

While, a team of skaters, including small children, also performed in the inauguration ceremony. 

At the Shyok Winter Festival, the Public Works Department team defeated the Water and Power Department in a tug-of-war competition.

According to the authorities, the Shyok Winter Festival will be the largest mega-event ever organized in the Ghanche district's history. 

This event is being planned in collaboration with the District Administration Ghanche, the AKRSP Baltistan Division, and the Line Department.

During the festival, Tyako Polo, volleyball, and ice hockey events and some other competitions are also being held to encourage local kids as healthy activities and promote tourism in the region. Some special food stalls are also installed at the festival.

To underscore the historical significance of this huge event, Ustad Niaz Ali, Manzoor Baltistan, and other vocalists from Gilgit-Baltistan will perform.

The winter sports contests and musical and cultural shows also occur in the festival while Khadim Rondu and Hushe Group will also perform.

The Ghanche district administration has also established a tent village to host a women’s expo.
