JI to stage sit-in on July 12 in Islamabad against state-oppression, power hike

Jamaat-e-Islami emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has said the party would hold a historical sit-in on July 12 in Islamabad against the oppression and rising electricity bills, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Addressing the media in Multan, he said the people have been forced to sell their precious savings to pay the ever-increasing power bills.

He announced a historic sit-in in Islamabad on July 12, urging the end of oppressive systems and highlighting the severe electricity crisis plaguing the nation.

Hafiz emphasized that the government must take action to alleviate the hardships faced by the people.

Rehman criticized the government for its apparent indifference towards the plight of the public, stating that the rulers seemed unwilling to show any compassion.

Addressing issues in South Punjab, Rehman remarked that despite promises of a separate secretariat, the region has not been granted its due rights.

He highlighted the severe conditions faced by the farmers, which he described as being in a state of crisis.

Additionally, he called attention to the Dubai Leaks, criticizing the lack of accountability and transparency in investigating financial trails.

 Rehman said the incumbent government was the product of form 47 while urging the chief justice to form a judicial commission so that a real government would see the light of day.

He argued that the current state of affairs is deteriorating and that the rulers cannot escape responsibility. He lamented the imposition of taxes on everything, which he claimed burdens the common people.

JI chief said more taxes have been imposed on the salaried class while the landlords and elites have been sidelined from paying any taxes with the perks and privileges of elites also increased. 

He pointed out the recent increases in perks and privileges for members of the National Assembly and Senate, arguing that such benefits for the elite should be reduced.

Rehman questioned the logic of imposing taxes on exports, which he claimed is destroying the industrial sector.

 He clarified that the upcoming sit-in is not for personal gain but aims to provide relief to the impoverished populace.

Hafiz stated that the government's claim of being constrained by the IMF is unacceptable and that immediate measures are needed to address the pressing issues faced by the citizens.
