Govt accepts demands: Jamaat-e-Islami ends its sit-in

Jamaat-e-Islami has decided to end its 14-day long sit-in at Liaquat Bagh Rawalpindi after the federal government accepted their demands on Thursday night, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Addressing the participants of sit-in along with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Information Minister Atta Ullah Tarar, Jamaat-e-Islami deputy chief Liaquat Baloch said that all of their demands have been accepted.

He said on the demand of JI, government has set up a Task Force which will look into the matters of capacity charges and the Task Force will give its recommendation to the Prime Minister within a month.

Baloch further said that Task Force will be responsible for the implementation of its suggestion report. He said the government has also shared the TORs of Task Force with JI committee.

Liaquat Baloch said that first time the government has listened to the voices of the sit-in. He said on the demand of JI, the federal government has agreed that with help of the provincial government, it will impose income tax on landlords. JI leader said Govt has also agreed that it will revisit its tax on traders. Baloch said Govt agreed that the tax on salaried class will be minimised while tax on industrialist will be enhanced.

Baloch said the government has continued four committees which will hold meeting and JI and Government joint committees will ensure that their demands are implemented.

He said government has agreed that the electricity bills of the public will be minimised. The government will decrease per unit prices of the tariff. He said Govt has agreed to constitute a body to resolve the issues o the traders and businesses. JI leader hoped that all points of the agreement will be implemented in letter and spirit.

On the occasion Baloch thanked the government ministers for their cooperation.

On the occasion, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the government will fulfil its commitments. He thanked JI chief who staged sit-in in an organized way without creating law and order situation. He said PM Shehbaz had approved that the government will give due respect to JI demands.

Information minister Atta Ullah Tarar said that the demand of the JI and the government were same. He said PM Shehbaz Sharif also wanted to give relief to the government. Therefore government gave 50 billion subsidy to the poor people in their two months bills.

Tarar said the government will remain in contact with JI and the committee meeting will be ensured. On the occasion, Tarar flayed the atrocities of Israel on Gaza and demanded of the International Court of Justice to take notice of the genocide of the Palestinian.
