Pakistan virus deaths cross 5000, cases top Italy’s virus tally

Pakistan Thursday reached another grim milestone as coronavirus deaths in the country crossed the 5000 mark.

With 51 more deaths reported till the 9:00 PM, the death toll due to coronavirus in the country reached 5032.

Pakistan also crossed the tally of the worst-hit European country Italy with 242, 840 coronavirus cases reported so far with the addition of 2113 more cases. Italy has reported 242, 363 cases with 34926 deaths. The number of patients who recovered from the virus has reached 147,482 with 1906 more recoveries.

Sindh's tally also crossed the 100,000 mark after the province reported 1,538 cases during the past 24 hours. In a statement, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said that 9,860 tests were conducted during the last 24 hours. With the new cases, the provincial total has risen to 100,900.

He added that another 40 people also died during this time period, taking the death toll to 1,677.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 354 new cases confirmed taking the total to 29,406. Nine more lives were lost including 3 in Kohat, 2 in Peshawar, 1 each in Malakand, Abbottabad, Mansehra and Haripur. This took the total death toll to 1,063. 712 patients have recovered so far in the province taking the tally to 19,503.

In Federal Capital Islamabad, 81 new cases took the tally to 13,731 and two new deaths take the toll to 142. In Azad Kashmir, 40 new cases of the virus emerged taking the toll to 1459, However, death toll remained at 40 as no new virus-related causality has been reported.

New data for Punjab, Balochistan and Gilgit Baltistan was yet to release. Till Wednesday, 84,587 cases were in Punjab with 1955 deaths, 11,052 in Balochistan with 124 deaths and 1,605 in Gilgit-Baltistan with 31 deaths.
