Raising their voice in support of former hockey player Naveed Alam, who is battling against cancer and is currently admitted at Lahore’s Sheikh Zayed Hospital, former Olympians have appealed to the government to monetarily assist him in his treatment, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.
Former Olympians Ahmed Alam, Samiullah Khan and Danish Kaleem have demanded the government not to leave the man who won laurels for the country alone in these testing times.
Appealing to Prime Minister Imran Khan to make special arrangements for former player’s treatment, Samiullah said he was greatly saddened to learn about his sickness.
Ahmed Alam said he had played hockey with Naveed. “And I can’t believe that he is suffering from cancer,” he said, and added, “Previously too, some of our colleagues have passed away due to this deadly disease. Therefore, the government is requested to assist former player in his treatment.”
Danish Kaleem said he, Ahmed Alam and Naveed Alam had remained roommates for 10 years. “Therefore, I demand the government finance his treatment,” he said.
