Kalki casting Prabhas, Amitabh pocketing billions

Indian director, Nag Ashwin's science fiction dystopian film "Kalki 2898 AD" is on the verge of surpassing the ₹1000 crore mark globally across all languages on its 11th day at the box office.

The star-studded film "Kalki 2898 AD" featuring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan continues to perform strongly worldwide. Since its release on June 27, it has amassed over ₹900 crore across all languages, as confirmed by the film's producers.

The official twitter handle of the film shared a poster from the producers, Vyjayanthi Movies, announcing that "Kalki 2898 AD" has crossed the ₹900 crore milestone globally. "Raging towards the magical milestone..." was the caption alongside the poster of Prabhas from a pivotal scene in the movie.

The film reportedly earned over ₹900 crore in just 11 days, moving closer to the ₹1000 crore milestone. According to a representative of the film, Kalki 2898 AD grossed ₹945 crore. The movie surpassed the ₹500 crore mark in India.

During an interview with Zoom, director Nag mentioned that Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and Star Wars served as his inspiration for Kalki 2898 AD. He expressed, “We grew up watching Marvel films. I would say Guardians of the Galaxy was more of an influence than Iron Man. Definitely, Star Wars is a huge influence. I love Star Wars, so that is subconsciously a part of my aesthetic.”

In creating the character Supreme Yaskin, Kamal drew inspiration from Tibetan monks and Dorian Gray rather than Voldemort from Harry Potter, contrary to popular belief. The director also revealed that characters were named after Luke Skywalker from Star Wars and Sirius Black from Harry Potter.Kalki 2898 AD narrates the tale of Bhairava (Prabhas), a bounty hunter aiming to accumulate enough units to reside in the Complex, a sanctuary for the privileged. His path intersects with a pregnant lab subject, SU-M80 (Deepika), and Ashwatthama (Amitabh). The leader of the Complex is Supreme Yaskin (Kamal).
