Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Sindh President Nisar Ahmad Khuhro on Monday was elected as Sindh Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman unopposed, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
PAC member Makhdoom Fakharuz Zaman suggested the name of Khuhro for the seat of chairman at the maiden meeting of the committee held at the assembly’s Committee Room, which was accepted by all members.
Besides Khuhro, other members of the committee are PPP’s Muhammad Qasim Soomro, Saadia Javed, Syed Farrukh Ahmad Shah, Makhdoom Fakharuz Zaman, Khurram Karim Soomro, and Sunni Ittehad Council’s (SIC) Muhammad Rehan Rajput.
Provincial Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Ziaul Hassan Lanjar was also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Khuhro said he was thankful to the PPP leadership for nominating him for the position.
He said that on the instructions of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, PAC would keep an eye on the expenditures of all Sindh government departments as well as the use of funds. “The amount collected through taxes paid by the people should be spent on their welfare,” he emphasized, adding, “The committee will recommend action against the officials of any department found involved in the misappropriation of funds or any other irregularity.”
The newly-elected PAC chairman said that the committee would also review the auditor generals’ reports on departments.
He made it clear that he would not tolerate the absence of the provincial government officials at the committee meetings.
Khuhro said he had always come up to the expectations of the party’s leadership whenever the latter assigned him any task.
