The Special Committee of the National Assembly has decided to assign the investigation of the audio leak of former chief justice Saqib Nisar's son to the Federal Investigation Agency, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The meeting of the special committee set up by the National Assembly speaker was presided over by Chairman Aslam Bhutani on Tuesday.
The meeting deliberated on the issue of alleged audio leak of former chief justice Saqib Nisar's son Najam Saqib. During the meeting, Chairman Bhutani said that the committee will give the record of the parliamentary proceedings to the Supreme Court and investigate the issue of purported audio leak of former CJP Nisar's son.
The special committee has decided to write a letter to the Interior Ministry requesting it to ask the FIA to investigate the purported audio leak of the former chief justice's son.
The committee will issue instructions to the Interior Ministry regarding the investigation of the matter by the FIA. The special committee of the National Assembly has sought a report from the FIA in 10 days.
Apart from this, the special committee has also decided to invite Najam Saqib, the son of former chief justice, to the committee.
In this regard, Chairman Bhutani said that Najam Saqib and the ticket holders could come to the committee and explain their positions on the matter.
However, the committee members were divided on whether Najam Saqib should be called first or he should be summoned after the FIA investigation. The chairman called the in-camera meeting of the committee on Friday on this matter.
The chairman said “investigation will fulfil the requirements of justice. This investigation will go in their favour. We are not against any organization or person, we are against buying and selling.”
Bhutani said that the Supreme Court has asked for the record of the parliamentary proceedings. The committee will decide on the matter, he added.
Committee member Sheikh Rohale Asghar said that under which law the record of proceedings is being sought.
In the meeting, Additional DG FIA said that the FIA conducts investigations on its own and on the instructions of Interior Ministry.
The committee chairman said that the Interior Ministry should issue instructions to the FIA to start investigations today. The special committee sent Najam Saqib's alleged audio to the FIA for its forensic analysis.
On the matter of calling the Supreme Court registrar, committee member Birjis Tahir said that the committee has given its chairman a mandate that he could summon the SC registrar.
But the chairman said that it is necessary to seek the opinion of the Ministry of Law before summoning the SC registrar. If there was someone from the Ministry of Law, legal consultation would have been easier. The committee expressed its displeasure over the non-participation of the Law Ministry.
The special committee deferred the issue of summoning the SC registrar to the committee subject to the opinion of the Law Ministry and decided to bring the issue of non-cooperation of the Law Ministry to the notice of the Prime Minister and the National Assembly speaker.
