Govt fixes wheat, sugar support prices for 2023-24

Caretaker Punjab Information Minister Amir Mir Wednesday said that the government has decided to fix the support price of wheat crop 2024 at Rs4,000 per mound, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.
Addressing a joint press conference along with Caretaker Minister for Industries and Agriculture SM Tanvir, he said a decision was taken regarding the procurement of wheat under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
Following the procurement of wheat from farmers, the government will make wheat available to mills at Rs 4,700 per maund, enhancing the support for both agriculture and the local milling industry, he said.
Amir Mir said the government has also fixed the support price for sugarcane at Rs 400 per maund, emphasizing the government's commitment to uplifting the farmers’ plight.
S.M. Tanvir added that all kinds of restrictions have been imposed on the wheat quota.
“This season, wheat is projected to be cultivated on a vast expanse of 16 million acres, promising an abundant supply to meet the demands of the people of Punjab, he said, adding “There will be no need to import wheat and there will be enough for the province.
SM Tanvir informed the media that the sugarcane crushing season is scheduled to commence on November 20.
