Former Punjab chief minister and PTI President Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi met his family members at Adiala Jail on his birthday Wednesday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Wife Qaisra Elahi, son Rasikh Elahi and niece Bismah Elahi met the former chief minister at the prison’s conference room.
Earlier in the day, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad allowed Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi to meet with his family members today.
Duty Judge Shah Rukh Arjumand heard Elahi’s petition.
It was stated in the petition that the last time he was due to meet with his family members, the former chief minister was in Lahore; so he could not meet them. “Therefore he be allowed to meet them today on his birthday,” read the petition.
The judge asked Elahi’s lawyer whether the petitioner was presently in Adiala Jail. The lawyer replied in affirmative.
LHC seeks reply from govt’s counsel
Also on Wednesday, the Lahore High Court (LHC) sought a reply from the government’s counsel on the appeal by Elahi against the anti-corruption court’s decision to reverse its own previous verdict in which it had granted bail to him.
LHC judge Justice Sultan Tanvir Ahmad heard the appeal.
Amir Saeed Ran, counsel for PTI president, said on the occasion that his client had been granted bail on merit. “But later the court reviewed its decision and reversed it,” he said, adding, “The anti-corruption court does not have the power to take its decision back.”
“Only the LHC has the power to review decisions,” he argued.
