PPP to take all stakeholders on board to bag support for constitutional amendments: Sherry

PPP parliamentary leader Sherry Rehman has said that in order to bag support for constitutional amendments package, PPP leadership held meetings with ANP and PML-Q, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Addressing a press conference along with Nayyar Bukhari and Senator Shahadat Awan, Sherry Rehman said that parliament is creator of the constitution. PPP was trying to create consensus for the creation of constitutional court according to charter of democracy 2006.

She claimed that the number of cases in apex court was increasing say by day with no decisions in sight for years. Sherry said parliament should play its constitutional role however, the constitutional packages will not move around one man.

Sherry hoped that there should be equal representation of the provinces in the constitutional court therefore PPP was trying to create consensus on the package.

Sherry claimed, “PPP was taking all allies on board, moreover, we are also meeting with lawyers and civil society in this regard”. She said “on the directives of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto, we want to take all stakeholders on board so that this impression may not grow that parliament approved the constitutional package in the darkness late at night”.
