On the occasion of the completion of 50 years of the Constitution of Pakistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that today is the most important day for democracy as the constitution has kept united all federating units of the country, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The prime minister was speaking at National Assembly on Monday which was marking golden jubilee of the Constitution of Pakistan. He presented a special resolution in this regard.
PM Shehbaz said: “Today is the most important day for democracy. Our political veterans have established the supremacy of the constitution and rule of law and justice in the country.”
He said despite facing onslaughts by several despotic regimes in the past, our constitution is still intact.
The prime minister observed that the 1973 Constitution kept united all the federating units of the country.
Earlier, in his special message on the completion of 50 years of the Constitution of Pakistan, he congratulated the nation and paid homage to all leaders, parties, parliamentarians who gave the gift of constitution.
He expressed his government's resolve to increase the strength and glory of the Constitution by making country independent and making the lives of the people easier.
He said we pay tribute to all those revered personalities who augmented the dignity and sanctity of the Constitution in fifty years and contributed to its strengthening.
Shehbaz said the1973 Constitution of Pakistan is essence of the vision of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Allama Iqbal and founders of Pakistan. From 10 April 1973 to 10 April 2023, the Constitution of Pakistan held the nation together.
The prime minister said the constitution is an agreed civil agreement of all nations living in Pakistan and also is mother of all state institutions.
He said Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was architect of the constitution, who sacrificed his life for it. He also paid special tribute to Sheheed Benazir Bhutto and PML-N Quaid Muhammad Nawaz Sharif who played a historic role for uplifting, protecting and promoting the constitution.
Meanwhile, in his tweet, the prime minister paid rich tribute to the framers of the 1973 Constitution for their political foresight.
He said the nation today commemorates the Golden Jubilee of the 1973 Constitution, a sacred document that has weathered many storms over the past 50 years and held the federation together.

House adopts PM resolution
The National Assembly adopted a resolution presented by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif unanimously.
The resolution declared April 10 as National Day for Constitution. The day will be celebrated every year, it said.
The resolution also underlined the need to work together to improve the lives of the people and to uphold the principles of the constitution.
On this occasion, National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf talked about the architect of the 1973 Constitution Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and former premier Shaheed Benazir Bhutto in an emotional tone.
Zardari suggests PM hold talks with Opp
Former President Asif Ali Zardari advised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to negotiate with the opposition, reported 24News HD TV channel on Monday.
Zardari addressed the special session of the National Assembly regarding the Golden Jubilee of the Constitution of Pakistan.
He said it is not the first time that the Supreme Court has sent a notice as he has also faced Suo Motu notices in the past.
The former President said there have been entries against them in the recent past as his sister was picked up from the hospital at 12 o'clock in the night and put in jail.
Zardari said that when Benazir Bhutto was martyred, he raised the slogan of "Pakistan Khape"
and now President Arif Alvi also believes that if he had raised any other slogan, Pakistan would not have survived.
