The Lahore High Court will hear a petition of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan tomorrow challenging the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) decision to initiate a process to remove him from the party head position.

According to 24NewsHD TV channel, the LHC Justice Jawad Hassan will hear the case of the former prime minister Imran Khan on Jan 11.

On January 5, the LHC barred the ECP from removing Imran Khan as PTI Chairman in pursuance of the verdict issued in the Toshakhana case.

The court has issued notices to the Election Commission and other parties to appear before the court on January 11. The court has also issued notices to the attorney-general and advocate-general for assistance.

Pertinent to note, the ECP had initiated the process to remove Imran Khan as the PTI Chairman in the light of its verdict in the Toshakhana case.

Imran’s lawyer Barrister Ali Zafar argued that the ECP did not have the authority to remove someone from the position of party chairman, saying that it did not fall within the commission’s jurisdiction.

On the other hand, the counsel for the ECP argued that the commission had issued the verdict in the light of ra eference forwarded by the National Assembly speaker. He said that the law to disqualify any lawmaker is within the Constitution. After hearing both tarties, the court adjourned the hearing till January 11.
