Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has withdrawn its application for the election symbol from the Supreme Court, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf's application for restoration of the bat symbol was heard by a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, and Justice Musrat Hilali.
PTI lawyer Barrister Gohar appeared in the court.
The Supreme Court dismissed the petition when it was withdrawn by the PTI.
On the other hand, the hearing of the case related to the PTI intra-party election and the poll symbol of bat is also going on in the Peshawar High Court.
It should be noted that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf approached the Supreme Court against the decision of the Peshawar High Court divisional bench which annulled the PTI intra-party elections depriving it of its election symbol bat.
The PTI again moved to the PHC against its divisional bench’s decision.
Barrister Gohar pins hopes on PHC verdict in PTI election symbol case
Talking to the media men outside the apex court building, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said that since PTI’s intra-party polls and election symbol case was pending in the Peshawar High Court (PHC); therefore, the party’s petition in the Supreme Court (SC) in the same case had become ineffective.
He said this was the reason that the party had decided to withdraw the petition from the apex court.
Barrister Gohar hoped that the PHC would today give its decision in the party’s favour.
Gohar Khan argues that the ECP’s application was not admissible, expressing the optimism that the bat symbol will be back with the party, affirming the party's commitment to follow the court judgement.
ECP fully mandated to take decisions: Akbar S Babar
Meanwhile, talking to the media in Islamabad, PTI founder member who filed a petition against the PTI intra-party elections in the Election Commission Akbar S Babar said that the ECP has complete authority to take decisions about the political parties.
He said in our neighboring country, there is a law that courts do not interfere in the work of the Election Commission.
Babar said petitions are being filed against the Election Commission in the High Courts.
He said that the rights of PTI leaders have been robbed.
He was of the view that the elections conducted by the PTI in the closed room were completely fake. We wanted to present all the evidence in the Peshawar High Court but unfortunately, we were not given a chance, he added.
He said that the PTI violated the Election Act in its intra-party elections.
