Transporters and ordinary people are facing great inconvenience as a sit-in by members of the Kokikhel tribe on the Pak-Afghan highway near Jamrud that has been continuing for the last several weeks has led to the closure of the highway, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
24News TV channel has learnt that some members of the tribe receive money from the drivers in order to allow them to ply their vehicles on the highway.
Similarly, it has also been learnt that some of these tribesmen have even given a piece of land to the banned PTM near Jamrud for holding its Jirga tomorrow. Drivers and people have complained that the tribesmen have found a novel way of minting money through their protest.
And those who don’t grease their palms are not allowed to pass through, they have added.
Especially drivers have said they are in great pain due to the situation, but no one is there to address their grievances.
They have appealed to the government to take notice of the situation and put an end to the sit-in.
