Six people were killed while 57 others were seriously injured after a bus carrying Christian devotees from Sialkot to Maryamabad overturned on motorway near Khanqah Dogran interchange in Sheikhupura, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sheikhupura Sarmad Taimoor said the incident took place due to overloading and fast speed of the vehicle.

As soon as they learnt about the accident, Rescue 1122 personnel, Edhi ambulances, DSP Traffic Tariq Jameel and police teams rushed to the site and shifted 57 injured passengers to rural health center in Khanqah Dogran.

Later 37 passengers who were seriously wounded were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) in Sheikhupura on Edhi ambulances.   

DC Sheikhupura and assistant commissioner (AC) Safdarabad oversaw the rescue efforts.

Later they went to the hospitals and inquired after those injured in the incident.

Talking to the media, the deputy commissioner said that bodies had been sent to Sialkot on Edhi ambulances, while emergency had been imposed at the DHQ Hospital, Sheikhupura.

Truck crushes bike riders in Burewala

Two people, mounted on a motorbike, were killed on the spot when they were hit by a speeding truck on Gago Mandi Road in Burewala.  

Those killed were identified as Imran and Khalil.

The bodies were later shifted to hospital.
