The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Chairman Lt Gen Sajjad Ghani (retd) on Sunday conducted a thorough inspection of ongoing work at the Diamer Bhasha Dam Project, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.
During his visit, the Chairman reviewed the ongoing test run of the project's site delivery system, marking a crucial step towards the realization of this ambitious venture.
The Indus River underwent partial diversion at the Diamer Bhasha Dam site last week.
Resultantly, most of the river's water is now directed through this Diamer dam system, while a portion continues to flow in its natural course.
The Wapda chairman was briefed by the project officials about the functioning of the diversion system in detail.
According to the briefing, the diversion system of the project consists of a diversion canal, a diversion tunnel, and two coffer dams. The system is working effectively during the test run.
Anticipating a major milestone, the complete diversion of the river is expected to be achieved next week, they added.
Simultaneously, construction activities are progressing at an impressive pace across 13 different sites of the Diamer Bhasha Dam project.
The project, slated for completion in 2028, aims to store an impressive 8.1 million acre-feet of water and generate 4,500 megawatts of cost-effective, eco-friendly hydropower.
This development is a crucial step towards meeting the region's growing energy needs and enhancing water resources, the briefing added.
