Death toll in Neelum Valley jeep plunge rises to 16

In the incident of a jeep falling into the river at Karimabad in Neelum Valley of Azad Kashmir, the death toll has risen to 16, including three tourists, as the administration declared the ten missing passengers dead on Monday.


The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) issued the final report of the accident and said there were no chances of survival for the ten missing passengers in the river.


According to SDMA, during the search operation on the second day to find the missing bodies, six dead bodies, including three tourists, were recovered from the river. After the funeral prayers, the bodies of the deceased were handed over to their families.


The SDMA report said ten individuals were still missing in the jeep accident, while three injured were under treatment in the hospital.


The authority confirmed in its report that 23 passengers were on board the passenger jeep that met with the accident in Karimabad.


SDMA mentioned that among the passengers were seven tourists from a single family from Multan and 12 nomads from the Bakarwal tribe.


As per the announcement of the SDMA, the rescue teams' search operation continues to find the bodies of the missing passengers.


Yesterday, a passenger jeep going from Keel to Tabaat met with an accident at Karimabad and fell into the river.
