Punjab Chief Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi has said that the Safe City Project has been approved for Gujranwala City and is set to be completed within 120 days, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.
He was talking to media persons during his unscheduled visit to Gujranwala on Tuesday.
CM Naqvi expressed satisfaction with the rapid progress of the construction work on the Gujranwala Motorway and announced the impending commencement of construction activities for Gujranwala University. Emphasizing the importance of upholding the law, he assured the public that cases were being duly registered in accordance with legal procedures.
Earlier, the Punjab Chief Minister embarked on an impromptu visit to the District Headquarters Hospital in Gujranwala to assess healthcare facilities. During the visit, CM Naqvi was visibly displeased by the presence of sewage water both inside and outside the hospital, along with unsanitary conditions characterized by heaps of dirt.
Reacting to the deplorable state of the hospital, Mohsin Naqvi issued an immediate directive for the removal of the accumulated garbage in the hospital's vicinity. He also summoned the Commissioner and the Deputy Commissioner on-site to address the situation promptly.
The Chief Minister conducted a comprehensive inspection of various hospital departments, including the Emergency, Gynaecology, Medical, and Surgical units. He interacted with patients, inquiring about the quality of healthcare services provided to them. Additionally, he visited the dialysis center, nephrology unit, paediatric ward, waiting area, and emergency block.
During his visit, Naqvi expressed disappointment at the absence of doctors on duty.
Several patients and their families lodged complaints about the inadequate treatment facilities at the Teaching Hospital Gujranwala. Among the grievances was the absence of stands for intravenous drips, forcing relatives to hold them manually. Moreover, caregivers reported being charged a hefty fee of Rs 300 for diaper changes.
The Chief Minister issued immediate instructions to the hospital administration to address these concerns without delay.
He also took note of a bereaved mother, Tahira, who alleged that her daughter had lost her life due to medical negligence.
In light of this serious allegation, CM Naqvi directed the Deputy Commissioner to initiate an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the operation and the subsequent tragedy.
Continuing his visit, the Caretaker Chief Minister paid a visit to the under-construction Children's Hospital.
He took the opportunity to review the plans for shifting the child unit and urged officials to expedite the process.
Commissioner Gujranwala Division, RPO Gujranwala, and the MS Hospital were present on the occasion.
