Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has declared that his government’s agenda is to make “right decisions” instead of “popular decisions”, and they are striving to remove the “ills” in the governance.

Speaking in 24NewsHD TV channel’s programme Nasim Zehra@8 on Sunday night, Prime Minister Kakar maintained that it’s Election Commission of Pakistan’s prerogative to announce the poll date but the general elections should be held before Senate polls which are due in March next year.

Responding to a question, Kakar said they were trying to correct the “sick governance” through the platform of Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC). “Unfortunately, there sensitivity of menace of smuggling was not taken seriously before. Now we have planned task forces in this regard,” he added.

He said the impact of privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and other state units would be visible by January-end.

The prime minister said the United Arab Emirates is interested to invest in mines and minerals sector in Pakistan. A visit by Saudi Crown Prince Muhammed bin Salman to Pakistan is being planned, he added.

 Kakar said the government is taking steps to rationalize expenditures and increase revenue of the government to create a viable state and lessen existential threats due to economic vulnerability. He said a task force, headed by the caretaker finance minister, would determine sizes of federal and provincial governments, besides making efforts to rationalize public expenditure and increase revenue.

Kakar said the Special Investment Facilitation Council is attempting to help achieve appropriate governance and address the reasons for ill-governance in the past.

He said the caretaker government and the military leadership have a clear viewpoint that the movement of people and goods at the borders of Iran and Afghanistan should be regulated.

He said the general election should be held before March next year so that the Senate elections can be held to fill the vacant seats on retiring of incumbent senators.
