Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Wednesday said that the Prime Minister of Pakistan has been found guilty of negligence in the appointment of the members of the regulatory body, Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).
In an emergency meeting at PMA House, Lahore, presided over by its President Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ashraf Nizami, the PMA said according to the announcement of the Ministry of National Health Services Regulations and Coordination (MNHRC), the notification issued after the approval of the Prime Minister of Pakistan including 15 members shows the indifferent attitude of the government with incompetence, negligence, bullying, and moreover the worst form of nepotism.
Prof. Dr. Malik Shahid Shaukat, Prof. Dr. Khalid Mehmood Khan, Dr. Iram Shahzai, Dr. Wajid Ali, Dr. Bushra Haq, Dr. Riaz Zulqarnain Aslam and Dr. Nader Khan participated in the meeting.
“This notification is not only the discrimination of Punjab province but also against the national unity and the constitution of the state of Pakistan, they said.
“The total number of medical colleges including Public and Private in Pakistan is 122 out of which 63 colleges are in Punjab and similarly 64% of the total 274994 registered doctors belong to Punjab.
According to the notification, non-representation of Punjab province in PMDC is a big question mark on the regulatory authority,” the meeting noted.
The council members have demanded the Prime Minister of Pakistan and Chairman of Pakistan People's Party Mr. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to immediately take notice and withdrawal this unconstitutional, immoral, and undemocratic notification of PMDC.
The house warned the government to refrain from instigating doctors’ community.
