Imran Khan criticizes media for keeping people ignorant over national economy  

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Monday criticized the media houses for not informing the people about the ongoing economic crisis, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

Addressing the people through a video link, he referred to the ongoing economic and political crisis being faced by the country and stressed upon the military and the judiciary to think about where the nation stands today. He reiterated that the court must play a part if the nation is to avoid a quick decline. “The judiciary should play its role as they will also "be answerable" if the economy further worsens,” he said adding that I am surprised at the business community's silence too."

The former premier said they were making all-out efforts to inform people about the economic condition. “The current situation will have effects on key state institutions," he added.

“I am not only addressing the nation, but I am also speaking to the institutions as economic deterioration will affect the entire country,” he hinted. 

Imran Khan reiterated that the only solution to the ongoing "alarming" economic condition was holding early elections in the country.

PTI chief further lamented the current administration, claiming that investors had lost faith in the government due to its policies. 

Imran Khan said, “The country’s dollar deficit was widening, and that we had taken out loans to cover the installment payments”.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan said the only solution to the ongoing "alarming" economic condition was holding early elections in the country.

"This might be the biggest economic crisis that this country has ever witnessed,” he added. 

Imran Khan said when the PTI government rolled out the National Security Policy (NSP), it mentioned that despite Soviet Union's armed forces being the strongest in the world, it could not save the state from collapse due to the economic condition.

Earlier, the former prime minister while speaking to a gathering of his economic team, expressed apprehension that things would spiral out of control. He said he had sought the help of Hammad Azhar, Hamayun Akthar, Omar Ayub and others to discuss the economic situation. 

Khan said that amid the ongoing crisis, small and large-scale businesses were the most affected. He added that exports were also declining gradually.

"The business community should ask why aren't the overseas Pakistanis sending remittances. In our tenure, remittances, textile exports, tax collection, all were at a record high," he said.

"And as there is a difference between the open market and interbank market rate, remittances are reducing."

The PTI chief said that the only solution to the crisis is free and fair elections.
