The Spanish fashion brand Zara found itself at the center of attention and ignited controversy on social media platforms after launching its latest ad campaign.
The Spanish retailer took to the microblogging website ‘X’ (Formerly Twitter) and shared pictures of its latest winter collection titled ‘Zara Atelier… Collection-4… The Jacket.’
For the promotion of their collection, they hired American model Kristen McMenamy.
In the advertisement, McMenamy is shown standing in a room with dummies wrapped in white covers and surrounded by rubble.
According to the captions written while sharing the posts, Zara’s latest is a “limited edition collection” to celebrate the label’s “commitment to craftsmanship and passion for artistic expression”.
The social media users are alleging that the ad campaign has a striking resemblance to the pictures of Palestinians living under Israeli occupation.

Pakistani actress Ushna Shah who has been continuously raising her voice for the Palestinians also shared her concerns regarding the matter.
She questioned whether individuals should discard Zara’s clothing they already have, emphasizing that the brand’s name is not associated with their voices.
“So do we throw away existing Zara clothes or just not buy new ones? IMO since they don’t have logos on them I don’t think wearing the ones we already have should be a problem. Never shopped there again. Boycott Zara #BoycottZara”, she wrote.

The outraged social media users condemned the brand saying that they used the tragic images just for the sake of money, just to promote their brand and sell fashion items.
One of the social users wrote:
“The latest Zara campaign depicts what appears to be dead bodies wrapped in white body bags, reminiscent of traditional Muslim burial attire, as well rocks, dust and rubble. What were they thinking? This is intentional at this point.”

“And the award for the most tone-deaf brand of the year goes to Zara. Using imagery of Israel’s genocide of Palestinians to sell their fast fashion brand of clothing,” another protested.

“How disgusting the world we live in… how disgusting humans are when there is no humanity. #BoycottZara”, another added.
