Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Ghulam Mustafa Shah expressed his frustration over the continued absence of federal ministers in the House and warned of not holding future sessions in protest.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, on Thursday, the persistent absence of federal ministers for the second consecutive day infuriated not only the opposition but also government allies and the custodian of the House.
The National Assembly session began with opposition member and former Speaker Asad Qaiser drawing the deputy speaker’s attention to the empty seats on the government benches, especially those of the cabinet members.
In response, the Deputy Speaker gave the government a 15-minute grace period by adjourning the session briefly. However, when the session resumed, cabinet members were still absent.
Members of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), including Syed Naveed Qamar and Shazia Marri, voiced serious concerns over the ministers’ absence, terming it a sign of irresponsibility and lack of seriousness.
Deputy Speaker Ghulam Mustafa Shah expressed his displeasure, labelling the ministers’ behaviour as irresponsible. He hinted at writing a letter to the Prime Minister regarding the cabinet members’ lack of interest in parliamentary proceedings.
The deputy speaker also warned that if this attitude did not change, he would not call a session next week in protest. Subsequently, the Deputy Speaker adjourned the session without conducting any business until Friday morning at 11 am.
