Following the decision taken by the parties, part of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), not to contest by-elections on the National Assembly seats, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has decided to consult its candidates on whether to contest these by-polls or announce their boycott, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
Sources in the PPP told 24News that it would only be after consulting its candidates that the party would take final decision in this regard.
On the other hand, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Qamar Zaman Kaira has said that the Pakistan People’s Party will decide on contesting the by-elections only after it was done with intra-party consultations.
Talking to a private media channel, Kaira said despite being a coalition partner of the Pakistan Democratic Movement, PPP is independent in making political decisions.
Replying to a question about reasons for not announcing elections following the dissolution of two provincial assemblies, namely Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Kaira responded that by-elections were scheduled to be held on fewer seats while the election in two provinces was a major exercise to be completed.
