Punjab police on Sunday arrested dozens of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activists who were protesting against the alleged rigging in the Feb 8 elections in Rawalpindi, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.
The police also resorted to lathi-charge and tear gas to disperse the gathering of a large number of people near Arshi Masjid, Sadiqabad, Rawalpindi.
They were assembled to register their protest after the former prime minister Imran Khan urged supporters to protest against the rigging.
To handle the increasing number of PTI activists, a large number of cops started to deploying at the Murree Road and other places.
PTI-backed independent candidates took the most seats in the polls, reducing the chances of the established backed Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to win a ruling majority.
The police also warned they would come down hard on gatherings after the Section 144 orders were in place.
