Lahore: Doctors at the General Hospital have reached a significant milestone by successfully completing a bronchoscopy procedure on a 10-year-old girl, Manahal, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Sunday.

The procedure, performed by a team of pulmonology and pediatric specialists, has been hailed as a lifesaving intervention.

Manahal's parents expressed heartfelt gratitude to the medical team for saving their daughter's life. She had been suffering from persistent fever and weight loss for three months before the procedure.

"This achievement reflects the positive outcomes of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz's health vision, and the dedication of Professor Al-Fareed Zafar's team," said the Principal of Amiruddin Medical College, adding that both adult and pediatric bronchoscopy services will now be a regular feature at the hospital.

Medical Superintendent (MS) of General Hospital, Frayad Hussain, highlighted the importance of bronchoscopy in diagnosing and treating respiratory and lung-related diseases in children. “This method allows direct visualization of the respiratory tract and lungs. It is particularly crucial when diagnosing conditions like pneumonia, fungal infections, or even serious illnesses like cancer," he explained.

Bronchoscopy also enables doctors to collect samples from the lungs for lab testing, aiding in the precise identification of infections or diseases. This cutting-edge diagnostic capability represents a major step forward for pediatric care at General Hospital.

The successful procedure is being celebrated as a testament to the hospital’s commitment to advancing healthcare under the leadership of the provincial government.
