Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) has urged the government to increase the budget of the universities manifold, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
In a press release, Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) president Dr Amjad Magsi said that since 2018 recurring budget of the universities remained fixed at Rs65 billion in Pakistan which was hampering the growth and the research work of the universities.
FAPUASA General Secretary Dr Uzair emphasized that there was an urgent need to increase the recurrent budget from the current Rs65 billion to Rs500 billion.
He said if the government failed to hike the budget, then universities would have to increase the fees many times, resultantly middle-class students would lose their right to higher education.
Dr. Amjad Abbas Magsi demanded that the federal government should ensure that the recurring budget was increased sufficiently this time so that the universities could maintain their academic standards.
Dr. Uzair added that the government's focus was on increasing the development budget while the recurring budget had been ignored for a long.
He urged the federal government that instead of increasing the development budget, the recurrent budget should be increased.
