PDMA issues intense heatwave alert in Punjab this week

Provincial Disaster and Management Authority (PDMA) has warned that the heatwave will continue in Punjab this week with temperatures expected to be between 40 and 45 degrees Celsius, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.


According to a PDMA spokesperson, the heat wave would be intense in Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Multan districts of South Punjab,


Yesterday, a 43-degree temperature was recorded in Attock, Rahimyar Khan, Bahawalpur, Narowal, Kasur, Jhelum, and Toba Tek Singh while the temperature rose to 46 degrees in Okara and 44 degrees in Gujranwala and up to 44 degrees in Lahore, PDMA.


Last year the maximum temperature was recorded at 46 degrees.


Safety Guidelines for Punjab


Following the directives of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Director General of PDMA Irfan Ali Khan issued directives for the public in light of the heatwave.


“The concerned institutions should be on alert”, said the Director General of PDMA.


“Supply of clean water is being ensured in the districts of Cholistan.”


“Heatwave counters are set up in all hospitals”, DGPDMA.


“PDMA guidelines to ensure supply of relevant medicines for prevention of heat stroke.”


“Provision of water and other basic animal needs should be ensured in the cattle markets”.


“Citizens are being made aware of the dangers of heat waves through the media”, DGPDMA directed.


“The public is requested to take precautionary measures.”


“Take special care of children, elderly and sick people as the effects of a heat wave can be more on the elderly, children and the sick people”, Irfan Ali Khan.


“Avoid exertion and exercise in strong sunlight”, DGPDMA.


“Avoid unnecessarily outing, wear light-colored cotton clothes”.


“Call PDMA Helpline 1129 or Rescue 1122 in emergency situations”, he concluded.
