An accountability court (AC) in Lahore on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of Ramzan Sugar Mills reference against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shehbaz until April 19, 2024, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
AC judge Ali Zulqarnain Awan heard the case.
Speaking on the occasion, counsel for Hamza requested the judge to grant his client one-day exemption from appearance in the court today, saying he was sick.
He also presented in the court Hamza’s medical certificate.
To this, the court agreed and granted him an exemption for a day.
The judge also directed Hamza’s lawyer to give arguments on the next hearing in support of his request, seeking for his client permanent exemption from appearance in the court.
The court has already granted permanent exemption to Prime Minister Shehbaz in the case.
As per the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) reference, the Sharifs are facing the allegation that they built a drain from state funds to benefit their sugar mills.
Shehbaz, on the other hand, argues that the drain was built at the request of a local MPA so that the entire population of the area could benefit from it.
The prime minister also opines that the reference had been filed against him by his opponents to politically victimize him.
