Money-lender marries eight-year-old girl as father fails to repay loan

In yet another example of how children, especially girls, are treated as property in our society, an influential person in Ghotki kidnapped and married an eight-year-old girl after her father failed to return the borrowed amount, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Ghotki SSP Umer Tufail took notice of the issue after 24NewsHD aired the news and announced the safe recovery of Samina Leghari. He added that the police had also arrested the accused.
The incident was reported from a nearby village Shahnawaz Leghari as her family members staged a protest and demanded that the girl must be recovered ae the earliest.

According to details, Fida Hussain Leghari had obtained Rs0.1 million as a loan on hefty interest rate from Attaullah Kulachi four months back. However, the monetary dispute involves a total amount of Rs0.4 million due to interest as he had done so in the past as well.
Meanwhile, interest in interior Sindh is calculated on monthly basis at a rate of 50 percent, making the needy people like Leghari a slave to the powerful money lenders.
