Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi unveils ambitious plans for Children's Hospital overhaul

In a significant stride toward enhanced pediatric healthcare, the Children's Hospital in Punjab is slated for a transformative upgrade.

Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, spearheaded a comprehensive visit to the hospital, unveiling plans for a 150-bed medical emergency facility, outdoor ward enhancements, and the construction of a state-of-the-art medicine warehouse.

Expressing deep concern for the well-being of children undergoing emergency treatment, Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi extended personal inquiries and comfort to both the young patients and their mothers. Under the proposed upgrades, not only will children receive free treatment, but medications will also be provided at no cost, ensuring accessibility to healthcare for all.

During the visit, Chief Minister Naqvi discovered the challenging conditions faced by children in medical emergencies—3 to 4 children treated on a single bed, limited AC functionality, and overcrowded conditions. Responding promptly, he directed the immediate operation of closed AC units in the emergency ward and called for an immediate increase in the number of beds.

In response to the urgent needs expressed by concerned mothers, Chief Minister Naqvi instructed the Vice-Chancellor of Children's University and the Medical Director of Children's Hospital to take immediate actions to address and improve the treatment of children. He emphasized that every child should be treated on a separate bed, ensuring individualized and efficient healthcare delivery.

Allocating a substantial budget of 52 crores for the hospital's upgrade, Chief Minister Naqvi emphasized the urgency of increasing the number of beds in the medical emergency facility to 150. A detailed plan for this expansion has been requested.

The visit extended to the newly expanded 38-bed emergency unit, where Chief Minister Naqvi personally inspected various departments and interacted with mothers to gather insights into the treatment facilities. He directed the extension of the emergency unit in an adjacent building and ensured that the upgrade process adhered to the highest standards.

Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi's commitment to pediatric health extended beyond physical infrastructure. Acknowledging the unique needs of children suffering from heart disease, he issued a directive for the immediate import of oxygenators, showcasing a comprehensive approach to healthcare improvement.

A high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naqvi brought together key stakeholders, including Provincial Minister Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Dr. Javed Akram, to deliberate on the hospital's upgradation plan. The meeting underscored the commitment to fostering a healthcare environment that caters to the specific needs of the younger population.
