The Federal Cabinet has given its nod to critical initiatives, endorsing the Telecom Infrastructure Sharing Framework and the formation of a committee for the impending 5G spectrum auction, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Wednesday.
The Telecom Infrastructure Sharing Framework marks a significant leap forward, establishing a structured mechanism for telecom companies to collaboratively share essential infrastructure.
Towers, antennas, cable ducts, and other components can now be shared, fostering efficiency, reducing redundancy, and paving the way for substantial foreign direct investment. This groundbreaking framework is anticipated to usher in a new era of possibilities, encouraging the entry of new players into the telecom arena.
Simultaneously, the Federal Cabinet has given the green light to the formation of a committee entrusted with overseeing the 5G spectrum auction.
Chaired by the caretaker finance minister, Shamshad Akhtar, the committee comprises ministers from IT, science, industry, production, and other relevant domains. Crucial ministries, including the Ministry of Information Technology, will have their secretaries represented on the committee, ensuring comprehensive insights into the auction process.
In an inclusive approach, the committee extends its reach to include representatives from key entities such as the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Frequency Allocation Board, and the General Headquarters (GHQ).
The spectrum review will encompass frequencies in the 700 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, and 2600 MHz bands. The auction process will be steered by insights from a report by PTA consultants, ensuring a transparent and strategic approach to spectrum allocation.
