Zara will begin offering services to sell, repair, or donate used clothes in the United States by the end of October, aiming to extend the life cycle of its products and reduce waste.

The change is part of Zara's Pre-Owned Programme which debuted in Britain in November 2022 and is currently live in 16 European nations, including Spain, France, and Germany.

Inditex, a parent company of Zara, has pledged to bring the service to all strategic markets by 2025.

The service can be accessed via the Zara app, website, and retail locations.

Oscar Garcia, CEO of Inditex, stated that approximately 22 million people visit Zara's online platforms daily, though Zara has not released client usage statistics for the service.

Zara’s secondhand initiative follows similar moves by other fast fashion retailers, such as H&M, which offers resale items in the US.

In addition to the secondhand service, Zara plans to launch live shopping shows in the US and other key markets, including Spain, Canada, France, Italy, Germany, Britain, Ireland, and the Netherlands in the upcoming months.

Since they started in November, weekly five-hour live shopping programs on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, have increased Zara's sales in China, according to a retail analytics company.

The expansion of Zara’s secondhand service and live shopping events reflects the brand’s ongoing efforts to engage customers in sustainable shopping practices while exploring new sales avenues.
