The ruling coalition has rejected the top court's order to stay the implementation of the 'Supreme Court Procedure and Practice Bill 2023, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Thursday.

The Supreme Court halted the implementation stating: "The bill will not be implemented whether the president signs it or not.”

In a joint statement issued, the ruling alliance expressed a strong reaction, saying: "The implementation of a law has been halted before its making. The stay has been ordered by creating a controversial and one-sided bench."

According to the eight-judge SC bench order, a point was also raised regarding the independence of the judiciary and there is no option but to stay the implementation through an interim order.

"This was done on the basis of a mere guess and concept, which is not only against the legal procedure but against the logic too,"  the allies rued in the joint statement.

It continued:  "This is the clearest and most serious example of a conflict of interest. This is a murder of justice and the reputation of the Supreme Court,

"The act is a one-man show that will go down as a dark chapter in judicial history. This move is against the constitution and the authority of the parliament.

" It is an attack on the federation of Pakistan and also a lack of confidence in the senior-most judges of the Supreme Court.  The ruling parties will strongly resist this injustice while disapproving of it."

"The reservations of the Pakistan Bar Council and the provincial bar councils were also proved correct. We hope that the lawyers' community will take notice of this serious mockery of the Constitution, law and justice and will raise their voices for upholding the principles of justice and fairness.

"The ruling parties will prepare a strategy to bring in justice. The alliance reiterated its resolve to protect the power and prestige of the parliament."

Earlier, leaders of the ruling coalition denounced the formation of the SC bench that took up the pleas against pending legislation and described it as controversial and unacceptable.

They cited previous cases where similar concerns were raised and urged the apex court to reconsider its decision to form the current bench.
