Veteran actor, producer, orator Zia Mohyeddin laid to rest in Karachi

Famous Pakistani British actor, producer, director, poet and television broadcaster Zia Mohyeddin died on Monday at the age of 91, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
He had been ill for the last several years. Zia Mohyeddin was laid to rest in Karachi after Zohr prayers in Defence Phase IV graveyard on Monday.
He worked in several famous films that earned him a great acclaim. He starred in the Julies Caesar, Long Days Journey into Nights, A Passage to India, Lawrence of Arabia, The Sailor from Gibraltar, Behold a Pale Horse, Bombay Talkie, The Assam Garden, Some Lovers to Some Beloveds and many other flicks.
He also took part in TV series and shows including Danger Man, Dead Man Walks, Sir Francis Drake, Visit to Spain, The Avengers, The Champion, The Jewel in the Crown, Dhun Hamari Thumaare Naam Hue and The Adventures of Sir Drake Jackanory.
He was a respected and well-known name in the world of theatre. He was also a famous lyricist.
Mohyeddin was born on June 20, 1931 in Faisalabad. His father Khadim Mohyeddin was a mathematician, musician, and playwright.
He married Azra Mohyeddin. He also married Naheed Siddiqi, who worked with him in PIA Dance Academy Karachi. His children are Risha, Minos, Alia, and Hasan Mohyeddin.
After spending his early life in Pakistan, he went to England to pursue a career as an artist. Soon he started training in the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London for four years, where he developed his talented artist in him.
Mohyeddin came back to Pakistan in 1960 and started his TV show named ‘The Mohyeddin Show.’ It was the first Talk Show in Pakistan. He also worked as a producer, director, and actor in Pakistan.
In recognition of his great talent in the world of art and literature, he was appointed as the director of PIA Arts Academy in 1973 that he served for four years in Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s regime. It was also the time when he met with a renowned dance Nahid whom he married later.
But when ZAB’s government was overthrown by military dictator General Ziaul Haq, Mohyeddin left Pakistan and went back to England. He started work in one of the famous programmes Here and Now.

He is known for his rendition of Urdu poetry and literature. He also used to read English letters and literature. His perfect Urdu accent with his talent of cadence lent such mastery to his rendition, that it gave a new soul to the work of literature. He has taken the recitation to the new level and unprecedented heights.
Mohyeddin’s contribution to the world of art was huge. He was awarded Sitara-e- Imtiaz in 2003 in General ® Pervez Mushharf’s government. He was also bestowed Hilal-i-Imtiaz by the Pakistan government in 2012. The Pakistani Community in Dubai presented him with a Lifetime achievement award in Dubai in 2017.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Monday expressed grief over the death of world-renowned director, voice actor, actor, writer and host Zia Mohyeddin, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
“Zia Mohyeddin was an artwork in himself. His unique style made a splash all over the world including Pakistan,” he pointed out.
“It is so sad that a person with many beautiful qualities has left the society. His will continue to resonate in our minds,” he added.
“We pay homage to his abilities and services. May Allah raise the ranks of the deceased and give patience to the bereaved family. Ameen,” he prayed.
Asif Zardari expresses grief
Former president Asif Ali Zardari also expressed his grief over the death of Zia Mohyeddin.
“Zia Mohyeddin was the best actor and voice actor. His unique voice and voice acting will always be remembered,” he said.
He expressed condolences to the family of late Zia Mohyeddin and prayed for his forgiveness and the elevation of ranks in the Hereafter.
Marriyum Aurangzeb condoles death
Federal Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb expressed her grief over the death of well-known actor, director and host Zia Mohyeddin.
She expressed his condolences to the family members of Zia Mohyeddin.
“Zia Mohyeddin was a literary figure whose style of reading and speaking gained worldwide fame,” she said.
“Zia Mohyeddin made Pakistan famous by working in theatre and films outside the country. He also presented famous programmes such as Payal, Chacha Chhakan, Zia Kay Saat and Jo Jane Whu Jeetay at Pakistan Television (PTV),” she pointed out.
“Zia Mohyeddin earned a good name by presenting works of Urdu literature in his beautiful voice. The services of the deceased for the showbiz industry will always be remembered,” she added.
“May Allah grant the deceased a high place in His mercy and patience to the bereaved family. Ameen,” she prayed.
FM Bilawal and Punjab CM
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi expressed their grief over the demise of great actor and host Zia Mohyeddin.
They expressed condolences to the bereaved family members of Zia Mohyeddin and prayed for rest of the departed soul in eternal peace.
