Punjab govt to end child labour with evening classes

The Punjab government has decided to start evening classes in school to eradicate child labour in Punjab, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.
The retired teachers will be appointed for evening classes.
Public school buildings will be used for evening classes.
Children said they can't go to school in the morning because of work, adding that with the start of classes in the evening will allow them to continue their studies.
Educationist Riza ur Rehman said the decision will increase literacy rate, adding that with the increase of the literacy rate it will be possible to eliminate child labour from the country.
The Department of Education has begun work on a plan to eliminate child labour.
In the first phase, schools will be opened in these areas, where child labour is high.
Children will also receive a monthly stipend for taking evening classes for which a separate budget will be kept every year.
It is pertinent to note the number of child labourers across the country has crossed four million.
