Pakistan records 2,255 more coronavirus cases

The number of coronavirus cases in Pakistan climbed to 34,336 with the addition of 2,255 new ones during the past 24 hours, National Command and Operation Centre said on Wednesday morning.

The same period saw 31 more deaths which means that the death toll across the country has now reached 737.

However, the number of active cases in the country is 24,787 as 8,812 people have so far fully recovered from the virus.

Meanwhile, another 11,848 people were tested for the coronavirus after which the total number of tests conducted since the pandemic outbreak stand at 317,699.

As far as the administrative unit-wise distribution of cases is concerned, Punjab tops the list with 13,225 infections followed by Sindh 12,610, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 5,021, Balochistan 2,158, Islamabad 759, Gilgit-Baltistan 475 and Azad Kashmir 88.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Punjab continue witnessing the rise in the number of deaths with the current figures for these provinces currently standing at 267, 218 and 214 respectively.

The number of deaths recorded in other regions are: Balochistan 27, Islamabad six, Gilgit-Baltistan four and Azad Kashmir one.
