Federal Minister for Climate Change Senator Sherry Rehman has been placed among the 100 most influential people of 2023 in the list of ‘Time Magazine’.

‘Time Magazine’ released the list of the 100 most influential people of 2023.

The Time Magazine named Sherry Rehman among one of the 20 most influential leaders of 2023 along with US President Joe Biden, Japanese Prime Minister, German Chancellor Olaf Schulz, and the President of Brazil.

Pakistan’s foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also tweeted about Rehman’s feat.

“Pakistan People’s Party Vice President & Climate minister on Times 100 list @sherryrehman,” he wrote while sharing the Time Magazine’s article.

German State Secretary Jennifer Morgan has described Sherry Rehman as a leader who gave a voice to those who lost everything in the devastating floods of 2022.

In Time Magazine, German State Secretary Jennifer Morgan further wrote that the world needs more people like Sherry Rehman.

Sherry Rehman was included in the list of 50 most successful women in Asia by Forbes Magazine this year and in the list of 25 most influential women of 2022 by Financial Times last year.

Giving details about the decision, Time Magazine wrote:

“There are many terrible sides to the climate crisis, but one of the most distressing is that it is hitting hardest those countries that are least responsible for it. Pakistan is responsible for only a fraction of global emissions, but the climate crisis led to more than a third of the country being flooded last year. The water had not yet fully receded when Sherry Rehman arrived in Egypt for COP27, the U.N. climate summit, in November. There, as Pakistan’s Minister for Climate Change, she gave a voice to those who had lost everything to the floods. Through impassioned speeches and tireless engagement in negotiations, she convinced many of the delegates that the blatant injustice must come to an end. COP27 ended with a historic decision—the world community agreed for the first time to establish new loss and damage funding arrangements to support the most vulnerable countries. This is a big step toward climate justice, but we still have a long way to go. We will need more people like Sherry Rehman along the way.”
