Expressing displeasure over the attitude of foreign ministry, the Supreme Court has summoned foreign secretary in case of model Sofia Mirza’s children’s repatriation from the United Arab Emirates, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
A three-member SC bench headed by Justice Maqbool Baqir heard the case on Monday.
The public prosecution told the court that complying with the court order, a joint report of the foreign ministry and the FIA had been submitted.
The foreign ministry’s director for the Middle East informed the court that the UAE authorities had been requested for the repatriation of Sofia Mirza’s children.
“According to a pact between the two countries, the UAE authorities are bound to give an answer on our request within two months,” he added.
On this, Justice Baqir asked the ministry official how many years had gone by that we could not bring back the children.
The official, however, assured the court that its order would be obeyed.
The judge deplored ‘what is the responsibility of the officers if the court has to intervene every time.’
With this, the court adjourned the hearing till tomorrow.
