Former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan said Thursday he was shocked when he listened to detailed verdict of the Supreme Court (SC), in which it had declared National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri’s ruling on the opposition’s no-trust motion against his government as ‘unconstitutional’, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Addressing a massive public gathering at Dera Ghazi Khan in connection with the by-election to be held on 20 Punjab Assembly (PA) seats two days from now, on July 17, 2022, he said the apex court had said in its verdict that the ‘threatening letter’ from the US was not investigated.
“Initially, the matter had been placed at the federal cabinet meeting,” Imran said, and asked as to why the SC did not order an inquiry into the ‘cypher’ in the light of the letter written by President Arif Alvi to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Umar Ata Bandial.
“The country’s prime minister was threatened, but none deemed it necessary to probe the matter,” he regretted.
“ If we do not conduct an inquiry, then none of our future prime ministers will be able to stand in front of America. Do you think that Shehbaz Sharif will stand in front of America? America needs a Prime Minister like him. Shahbaz Sharif has already fallen to his knees before the US,” Imran said.
Regarding the by-polls to be held on Punjab Assembly seats, he said these were the elections which would determine the political future of the country.
The former premier was of the view that female polling stations were more vulnerable to rigging.
He also hit out at Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for being ‘pretentious’, and said that unlike him Usman Buzdar was a simple and down to earth person when he was the Punjab chief minister. He said Usman Buzdar was made Punjab CM so that he can serve the masses.
He said that the nation had to defeat imported government in the upcoming Punjab by-elections. “This is a time to defeat turncoats and thieves,” he said, and thanked the people of the area for attending the public meeting in large numbers.
“Listen! Shehbaz Sharif, you cannot win even with the support of umpires,” the PTI chairman said it aloud, and reminded the prime minister that he should bear this thing in mind that he had earlier lost an election in Dera Ghazi Khan and will lose again.”
