Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi spoke to media outside an accountability court in Islamabad and said that the so-called system of accountability was taking its last breaths, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

“If the country is to be run, the institution of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has to be abolished,” he reiterated.

While giving his comments on the obstacles being put by President Arif Alvi in the way of the government, he said that the president of the country facilitated the affairs of the state instead of becoming an obstacle.

“Is he (Arif Alvi) the president of a country or a member of a party?” he questioned and asserted that he would have to fulfil his constitutional responsibilities.

“This is the same president whose party paralysed the system of accountability by controlling the NAB chairman,” he flayed, adding that the ideology of Imran Khan (chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) was to tell lies upon lies.

He also blamed Imran Khan for destroying the national economy, adding that trust was lost when the rulers took wrong economic decisions and broke agreements with the world.

He said that the government was taking difficult decisions to repair the damage caused by Imran Khan.

“A temporary inconvenience it is. Let the people face this inconvenience for a brief period of time. The country will move towards betterment and stability after that,” he declared.
