Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani has said he will ‘stand by Prime Minister Imran Khan’ though his party – Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) – has not made a decision on the no-confidence motion against the premier, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Monday.

He was talking to the media after his meeting with National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, ministers Pervez Khatak and Shibli Faraz who called on him at the Senate chairman’s chamber.

“I will personally stand by Imran Khan. My party has not made any decision,” the Senate chairman said.

“I did not meet anyone and I did not make any offer,” the BAP lawmaker said in reply to a question.

The National Assembly speaker said the date of the session has not been decided. The final decision would be made in a couple of days, he said citing assembly renovation as the reason for it.

He said he will act in accordance with the law and the constitution.

The speaker said that filing such a motion is the right of the opposition and his duty is to follow the law and the constitution.

According to sources, consultations on the ongoing political situation and government measures to defend the prime minister came under discussion during the meeting.  Sadiq Sanjrani survived the no-confidence vote pushed by the opposition in 2019 and BAP is one of the partners of the coalition government.
