Shanto’s century, Rahim 73 push BAN to 6-wicket win against SL

Najmul Hossain Shanto’s century and Mushfiqur Rahim’s 73 guided Bangladesh to a six-wicket win against Sri Lanka on Wednesday in the 1st ODI as the home side take a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series.

Earlier, Kusal Mendis and Janith Liyanage steadied Sri Lanka’s ship in the middle as their fifties helped the visitors post 255 against Bangladesh in the 1st ODI. Shoriful Islam, Taskin Ahmed and Tanzim Hasan Sakib all took 3 wickets each as the Lankan Lions were bundled out in 48.5 overs.

Pathum Nissanka and Avishka Fernando had started Sri Lanka off on the right foot when they shared a 71-run partnership scoring 36 and 33 respectively. Mendis and Liyanage would then take it from there with a 66-run partnership before Sri Lanka lost wickets at regular intervals.
