The Election Commission of Pakistan raised seven objections to the matter of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf intra-party elections, the 24NewsHD TV reported on Monday.

It said: “Pakistan Tehreek-e-leaf did not hold an intra-party election within 5 years, in the departure of Section 208(1). Hence, it lost its organizational structure on lapsing of 5 years. What is the status of PTI now in this perspective, as a political party?

The ECP added: “Section 202 (5) of the Elections Act 2017 requires that a political party enlisted under previous law will be deemed to be enlisted if it fulfills the requirement of Section 209. Taking cue from the same, can PTI be proceeded against under Section 202 (5) on the same analogy?

“Explain that General Body meeting dated 31.01.2024 can be equated with Section 208 (3)?”

It continued: “ According to your record submitted to ECP, PTI has held allegedly intra-party elections on 03.03.2024 as a result of Resolution passed by a General Body meeting dated 31.012024, which appointed Fed.EC. PTI Constitution (Article IX) requires its National Council to appoint Fed.EC on recommendation of Central Executive Committee. Given this method of appointment in PTI constitution, what is status of General Body of PTI to appoint Fed. EC?

“Will you explain that in the some General Body meeting / Resolution, a Chief Organizer has been appointed by PTI. The same Chief Organizer has notified Mr. Rauf Hassan as Fed. CEC. Is appointment of Chief Organizer by General Body legitimate and can it appoint Fed.CEC?

“What is your response on 05 applications which have been received by ECP for redressal against PTI intra party elections dated 03.012024?

“In the light of ECP orders dated 23.11.2023 and 22.122023, as upheld by the Hon'ble Supreme Court of Pakistan, PTI is without an Election Symbol under Section 215. Section 208 (5) fixes a fine, if party fails to hold intra-party election. In this scenario, why PTI should not be proceeded against under Section 208(5) also?”
