The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of Pakistan has closed the primary runway of the Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore for one year.
As repair work on the runway is underway, inbound and outbound flights will use the secondary runway. After the closure of the primary runway 36-R, the secondary runway 36-L is being used by all national and international flights.
The Lahore airport administration has informed all airlines about the closure of the runway. The airlines also have been directed to keep the number of passengers and the quantity of fuel less than usual. The repair work on the runway will be completed by November 2021.
The secondary runway has the ILS Category-2 System, which helps planes see up to 700 metres.
According to the airport manager, all airlines will change their schedule due to change in the season.
