Former commerce minister Gohar Ejaz has said Pakistan can get $5b Western garment brands’ orders from Bangladesh but it has only two weeks.

According to 24NewsHD TV channel, he said India, Vietnam and Cambodia will get these after two weeks.

He said: “Pakistan's economy will benefit from a $5b order from Bangladesh.  This will employ 5 million people.”

He reiterated the demand for a relaxing electricity pricing policy.

“The textile industry in Pakistan cannot run on 16 cents. The Electricity price for industries should be reduced to 9 cents.”

He said current taxes hit the supply chain hard. Under SRO 1125, the local supply chain of the textile industry should be restored.
