The Federal Cabinet has approved the appointment of Lt-Gen Akhtar Nawaz as Chairman of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), reported 24NewsHD TV channel, quoting its sources.

The post was vacant after the resignation of Lt-Gen Muhammad Afzal.

Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired the meeting of the federal cabinet in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The meeting discussed various agenda items relating to development projects and other issues of importance, the PM office said.

Lt-Gen Muhammad Afzal has quit as NDMA chairman a few days ago. He also retired from the Army. Lt-Gen Afzal had served the Army for 38 years. He termed the institution as a source of honour for him. He spent the last day of his service with jawans at Gujranwala Garrison.
