PPP leader and member of Sindh Assembly Shahnaz Ansari was shot dead in Nowshehro Feroz on Saturday.

According to police, Shahnaz Ansari was killed in connection with a land dispute.

The attackers opened indiscriminate firing on her. She received three bullets and was shifted to a hospital in Nawabshah but succumbed to here injuries during the treatment.

It may be mentioned here that Shahnaz Ansari’s brother-in-law had also been murdered some 40 days ago as he had developed a land dispute with his brothers.

Shahnaz Ansari on Saturday went to attend the chehlum of her brother-in-law Dr Zahid Khokhar. Witnesses said she was targeted at the chehlum ceremony.

Talking to 24newshd.tv, Shahnaz Ansari’s husband Dr Hameed Ansari said that her wife wrote a letter to police and DC for protection as she was receiving threats. A copy of the letter was sent Sindh chief minister, Sindh Assembly Speaker and IGP. “The police did nothing despite receiving a letter from my wife,” he added.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has sought immediate report from the police high-ups and ordered immediate arrest of the culprits.

Sindh Imran Ismael has also sought a report from IGP and the DIG Benazirabad.

Reacting to the tragic murder of Shahnaz Ansari, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari demanded immediate arrest of the attackers. He called for an urgent probe into the murder. “I am in pain as Shahnaz Ansari was a fine political worker and an asset to the party,” he added.

In her reaction, PPP leader Nafeesa Shah said such incidents can occur if the Sindh IGP is not changed.
