A report compiled by Geological Survey of Pakistan (GSP) has revealed presence of huge gold reserves worth Rs800 billion in a 32-kilometer area along Indus River in Attock, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
Addressing a press conference, former interim provincial minister Ibrahim Hassan Murad said that huge quantity of oil and gas reservoirs were hidden in district Attock while also hinting at presence of gold reserves estimated to be 2.8 million tolas.
He further said that due to carelessness of local administration some unscrupulous elements of the area were trying to take custody of gold reserves and for this purpose they also installed machinery in Attock Khurd, Bagh-e-Nilab, Sao Jhanda and Ghora Mar areas, while the local administration restricted itself only on imposing Section 144 in the area.
He further said that after news surfaced on national media about the hidden gold reserves in Attock Punjab Minister for Mines and Minerals Sher Ali Khan Gorchani visited Attock. After his visit, the local administration had imposed Section 144 in the area.
He questioned that if Section 144 imposed in the area then why heavy machinery such as an excavator had reached the area.
He said that there is a police station in the area but the cops had also miserably failed to halt the installing of heavy machinery on Sao Jhanda and Ghora Mar.
Ibrahim Hussain Murad said that most of the officials received heavy bribes for keeping mum.
He urged the Punjab government to lease the land after holding a transparent auction and the amount generated after the auction should be deposited in the national exchequer so this amount be spent on welfare of the poor people of the province.
